1. Overview

tehSmartInvestor (tehsmartinvestor.com) is a privacy-first blog. We have designed this site to collect as little data as possible. Most of what we describe in this policy is data we do not collect, because we believe your financial information is yours.

This policy explains what data is processed when you visit this site, what stays on your device, and what — if anything — is shared with third parties.

2. What we do NOT collect

We do not collect or store:

• Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information (unless you voluntarily subscribe to the newsletter — see Section 6)
• Your IP address (Cloudflare Pages may process this for DDoS protection, but we do not log or store it)
• Your calculator inputs — EPF balances, salary, age, tax information — any of it
• Cookies for tracking, advertising, or analytics (at this time)
• Browser fingerprints or behavioural data

3. What IS stored on YOUR device

The only data stored locally on your device (in localStorage) is your theme preference:

This is not a cookie. It is stored locally in your browser and is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear it at any time via your browser's developer tools or by clearing site data.

4. How the tools work

The EPF Retirement Calculator and Singapore Income Tax Estimator run 100% client-side in your browser using JavaScript. This means:

• Your inputs (salary, EPF balance, age, etc.) are processed by your device only
• No input data is transmitted to our servers or any third party
• We have no technical ability to see what you enter into the calculators
• Closing or refreshing the page clears all inputs — nothing is persisted

6. Newsletter

If you subscribe to the tehSmartInvestor newsletter, your email address is collected for the sole purpose of sending you newsletter emails. It is stored by Buttondown (our email platform) and is not sold, shared, or used for advertising.

You may unsubscribe at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email. Upon unsubscription, your email address will be removed from our mailing list in accordance with Buttondown's data retention policies.

7. Children

This website is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, please contact us immediately so we can delete it.

8. Applicable laws

We are committed to compliance with applicable privacy laws, including:

• Singapore PDPA 2012 (Personal Data Protection Act) — governing the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data in Singapore
• EU/UK GDPR — if you are accessing this site from the European Economic Area or United Kingdom
• Malaysia PDPA 2010 — Personal Data Protection Act 2010 of Malaysia

Given the minimal data we collect, compliance with these frameworks is largely achieved by design (privacy by default).

Under the PDPA, GDPR, and similar frameworks, you have rights including: the right to access personal data we hold about you, the right to correct inaccurate data, and the right to request deletion of your data.

Given that we collect virtually no personal data (only your email if you subscribe to the newsletter), exercising these rights is straightforward. To unsubscribe from the newsletter or request data deletion, contact us via the information below.
